Obituary for Mildred Charlotte Adams (Hull)

Mildred Charlotte  Adams (Hull)
Mildred Charlotte Adams, 94, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at The Waters of New Castle, New Castle, IN. Mildred was born in Indianapolis, IN on December 18, 1919 to the late James W. and Jessie B. (Hervey) Hull. For several of her elementary school years during the Great Depression she lived on a ranch near Centennial, WY before moving to Laramie, WY. After coming back to Indianapolis, she completed her schooling and graduated from Manual High School in 1937. Following graduation she completed training at Comptometer School in Indianapolis. She then worked at Pitman-Moore Co. as a Comptometer Operator. Mildred married Edwin R. Adams in Indianapolis on November 3, 1939. After working several more years, Mildred and Edwin started their family. Their family then moved to New Carlisle, IN. They lived in Clyde, OH from 1954-1978. Edwin died in 1972. Mildred moved to Knightstown, IN in 1978 and lived there until she had strokes in 2006. She became a resident of The Waters of New Castle in 2006 until her death.
Mildred was an active member of the Knightstown United Methodist Church where she served 25 years as Treasurer of the United Methodist Women and was Chairman of Martha Circle several years. She belonged to the Avon Literary Club in Knightstown and the Henry County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Mildred loved to travel. She organized Armchair Travel Programs while she was in Clyde. She traveled throughout the United States as well as Canada and Mexico. She continued to travel after her husband passed away. Mildred was an avid gardener. She was also an excellent seamstress and enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Mildred was interested in genealogy. Civil War Assistant Surgeon Dr. James W. Hervey was her great great grandfather.
Mildred will be greatly missed by her two sons Curtis B. (Katina) Adams of Waco, TX, and Dr. Elliott R. (Elizabeth) Adams of Knightstown, IN, and a daughter, Patricia A. (Dr. Dennis) Pickering of Pittsburg, KS. She will also be missed by five grandchildren, Heather A. (Robert) Bohaty of Derby, KS, Julie A. (Adam) Cox of Ft. Wayne, IN, Douglas A. (Heather) Pickering of Woodstock, GA, Melanie D. (Douglas) Scallion of Valley Mills, TX, and Lynn V. (Thomas) Wisley of Bellevue, MI, and nine great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred is preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn F. Hull Dresher, and three brothers, Carl H. Hull, Herbert Hull and Ernest D. Hull.
Services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, March 16th at Heritage Funeral Care, Knightstown with Henry County Hospital Chaplin and friend Fran Bullock and Pastor Curt Hunt presiding. Friends are welcome to visit from 1-3 PM on Sunday preceding the service.
Burial will be in the Bakertown Cemetery in Clyde, OH on Monday March 17th.
