William H. “Bill” Brown, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Knightstown, Indiana passed away early Sunday morning, May 13, 2018 at the Tidewell Hospice House of Sarasota at the age of 97.
He was born February 17, 1921 in Ogden, Indiana, a son of the late Harry P. and Winifred (Boak) Brown.
Bill was a 1938 graduate of Knightstown High School. He married the love of his life, Sarah Jane “Sally” Parker on November 30, 1941. Bill served as a First Lieutenant fighter pilot in the US Army Air Corp during World War II. Bill retired as President of First National Bank following 38 years of employment. He was a member of the American Legion Post 152, the V.F.W., the Golden Rule Lodge 16 F.&A.M., Knightstown York Rite and the Indianapolis Scottish Rite.
He was known for his positive outlook on life and his humor. Bill was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed wintering in Okeechobee, Florida with Sally and accomplished his dream to move permanently to Florida earlier this year.
Bill will be missed by his son Richard Brown (husband: John L. Connors) of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Angie Fuller and Jon Kenemer (wife: Debbie); three great-grandsons, Ezra Fuller, Kalvin and Mason Kenemer and three nieces, Nancy Simmons, Judy Gordon and Jane Davis.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Sally Brown in 2015; three children, Donna Jean Brown, William Brown Jr, and Barbara Kenemer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 18, 2018 at Heritage Funeral Care in Knightstown with Rev. Alan McCraine officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery with military honors conducted by contingents from the US Army, American Legion and VFW.
Friends may call from 12:00 pm until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
