Obituary for Larry Smith

Larry O. Smith, 82, of Carthage passed away on the morning of Monday, November 4, 2019 at Morristown Manor in Morristown, IN.

He was born on January 21, 1937 in Thorntown, IN, the eldest son of the late James P. and Dorothy E. (Brookie) Smith.

Larry attended Mays High School and graduated in 1955. Following high school he served in the U.S. Army as a Tank Retriever and later in the Army Reserves earning multiple honors. He was a lifelong bachelor and enjoyed collecting model tractors and farm equipment. Larry drove a school bus in the Carthage area and was one of the leading members on the Carthage Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Patsy Moore and brother, Dave (wife: Kathy) Smith along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorial contributions to be offered to Carthage Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

A time of remembrance will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Heritage Funeral Care in Knightstown. Friends may visit from 11 – 1 pm at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Center Christian Church cemetery and will include a short honor ceremony by the Carthage Volunteer Fire Department.
