Arthur Lee "Dee"  Richardson
Arthur Lee “Dee” Richardson, 83, long-time Knightstown resident, died Tuesday morning at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. He was born October 4, 1929 in Blairsville, IL to the late Joseph and Oma (O’Neal) Richardson and moved to Rising Sun at the age of five weeks.
He served in the US Army during WWII. He was a 60-year member of Rising Sun American Legion Post #59, 50-plus year member of the Rising Sun Lodge #6 F. & A.M., the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and a past member of the Sons of American Legion Post #152.
Dee was a racing enthusiast, enjoying NASCAR, Sprint cars and drove modified cars as a younger man. Dee also loved spending time with family and friends.
Dee will be greatly missed by his wife Shirley who he married February 10, 1950; a son, Steven (Tracie) L. Richardson, of Knightstown; two daughters, Mary Jane Hunt of Greenfield and JoDee (husband, John) Mayfield of Battle Ground, IN, six grandchildren, Elissa Cronk of Knightstown; Julie Hamm of Greenfield; Darcy (husband, Shawn) Dildine of Lafayette; Shelby Mayfield of Battle Ground, Tyler Richardson of Knightstown, Chelsea Roland of Hagerstown, two great-grandchildren, Avery Cronk and Rebecca Dildine.
Dee was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Masters and Iva Glass, two brothers, Joseph W. Richardson and John White and a son-in-law Dean Hunt.
Services will be held Friday, January 18 at 11: a.m. at Heritage Funeral Care, Knightstown, with Richard Thayer presiding. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Burial will be at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with military services to be conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post #152.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock Regional Hospital-Hospice Care, American Legion Post #152 or Rising Sun Legion Post #59.
